Sufi Rituals

Throughout history, many Sufi orders (spiritual orders) have contributed to Islamic spirituality by regularly performing ceremonial gatherings that reflect the Mir’ât-i Muhammadî—the mirror of prophetic truth. These rituals were not merely acts of remembrance (dhikr), but comprehensive expressions of discipline, morality, and sacred aesthetics. Although some of these ceremonies have survived to the present day, they have often remained confined to closed circles, limiting public access and understanding. In response to this need, the Istanbul Sufi Ceremonies Ensemble, operating under the auspices of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has undertaken the mission of reviving and presenting these spiritual rituals to the public. Beyond currently practiced ceremonies, the ensemble also brings to light lesser-known and nearly forgotten rituals, restoring them through rigorous academic research and expert consultation. These rituals are reintroduced in their authentic form for audiences both in Türkiye and abroad. Some examples of these revived practices include: Tawaf Tawhîd Wafâ Dawr Dhikr-i Arrah Badawî Circle Zanbūrî Ceremony These ceremonies not only enrich cultural continuity but also offer contemporary audiences a meaningful encounter with the deep spiritual and artistic legacy of Anatolian Sufism.
